Hello and Welcome to the President's Tackle Box!

April 17th, 2020

What’s in your tackle box? What was your first tackle box like? Do you have any well-aged lures from your father or a relative? Who took you fishing for the first time and do you remember details of that fishing experience? These questions can definitely be conversation starters around your campfires this summer. For most, it’s pretty easy to reflect on fishing experiences of the past. I hope that all of you reading this can take some time soon to begin a conversation about tackle boxes and fishing experiences with your family and friends. Maybe even while you are fishing or boating on beautiful White Sand Lake!

This page of the website will serve as a place where the president of the White Sand Lake Association (WSLA) has a chance to share what is on his/her mind about the association or just thoughts about the lake or life in general. Check back once in a while to discover new “lures” from inside the tackle box. My name is Brian Wallace and I have volunteered to begin the role as president of WSLA as of November of 2019. Many thanks to those that have worked to protect and preserve our lake before me! With the help of many of those same people along with other dedicated residents of White Sand Lake, I will give being president my best effort to continue in the mission of the WSLA.

Today my mind is on many things from the Corona Virus to the state of our great country and world. It’s hard not to worry about the future more than any time I can remember. However, for a few minutes every morning, I get a chance to chill and gaze out my windows at White Sand Lake while the sun rises and reflects into our home. It allows me to push those big worries aside for a while and simply enjoy the scenery. It reminds me of how lucky I am to live where I live and helps me to remember what is most important. Our house on Memorywood Drive has been home for almost 26 years now. (Crazy to think that it has been that long!) My wife Patty and I have two amazing daughters who now are attending college. Of course, Julia and Jamie are back home due to the virus. This fact is giving us a chance to reconnect with each other and I predict we will be spending more time on the lake together than in the past. I have always loved our view of the lake whether it be during times of low water or high. I hope that from whatever window you view beautiful White Sand Lake you too can be calmed by the scenery of nature and push aside the worries of the world for at least a few minutes.

By the way, my first tackle box was a simple brown plastic model with three trays for lures that expanded when I opened the lid. I was so proud of that thing! I still have it today along with my father's much larger box containing fishing lure relics of the past. Time to reacquaint them with the water!

That's all for now. Thanks for reading my first "lure" of 2020.
